What Is Structured Cabling

Structured cabling is a standardized cabling system organized into defined pathways, patch panels, and termination points, designed to support voice, data, and video across a building through a single, coherent infrastructure rather than separate cable runs for every individual system. This structure is what makes it possible to add, move, or reconfigure a network connection later without tracing cable runs through walls and ceilings to figure out what connects to what.

Structured Cabling System Components

A structured cabling system is built from horizontal and backbone cabling, patch panels and termination points in equipment rooms, and outlets at each work area or device location, all organized to a defined standard. This layered structure separates the building's permanent cabling infrastructure from the equipment that plugs into it, so changes to devices or network equipment don't require touching the cabling itself.

We specify cable category based on actual usage and growth expectations, not the lowest-cost option regardless of what the building will need in a few years.

Installation covers running cable through planned pathways, terminating at patch panels and outlets, and organizing everything to the structured standard rather than leaving cable coiled or unlabeled.
